“So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” Romans 10:17 KJV
People would think that faith comes simply by reading the bible or listening to someone’s preaching. But it is not the entire case.
- Abraham is the father of faith but he didn’t even have a bible to read nor had someone preaching to him.
- Paul wasn’t with Jesus as the 12 disciples, being taught by Jesus in person. But he probably knew Jesus better than all people in his generation
From the examples of Paul and Abraham, we can see that faith doesn’t comes by reading the bible and or even listening to Jesus IN PERSON
So where did Abraham and Paul get their faith?
Their faith comes by **hearing what God speaks to them**, not simply by reading the bible or listen to someone’s preaching. Yet God can speak to you through your reading of the bible and someone’s preaching to you though.
God’s word is spirit (John 6:63) and it has to be discerned by the spirit (1 Corinthians 2:14). If we read the bible without the help of the Holy Spirit, you hear the word of God spoken by you and you receive nothing from God. However, if you read the bible with the help of the Holy Spirit, you hear the word of God spoken to you by God and that’s where the revelation knowledge comes from.
When you read pray the bible:
→ it is good to pray that God speaks things to you and helps you to hear Him.
